If you are not using this amazing piece of software I urge you to consider it.
It has saved me countless times. If your system breaks, resync it back to a date you know that it wasn’t broken. You can schedule snapshots, monthly, weekly, daily and it just works. I can NOT speak more highly of a simple solution to your insanity.
Recently, I borked my system to the point that lightdm would NOT work. I could NOT log in to the desktop. From a TTY prompt, initiated by pressing ALT-F5 I was able to execute ‘sudo timeshift --restore’ to select a restore point I knew worked, and it just booted, much to my amazement.
I highly recommend this amazing piece of software. It can AND WILL save your butt in a pinch.
Install timeshift by opening a terminal and entering ‘sudo pacman -S timeshift’ On it’s initial execution, a wizard will lead you through setting it up.
Have fun people.
