Good evening. Hello from Florida!
I am a new Mabox user who has a penchant for older hardware, specifically laptops. I prefer older hardware because of rugged construction and durability over time. One of my favourite laptops was a Dell M90 (Which had a bad graphics CPU which I replaced twice before we parted ways) currently my favourite laptop is a Dell Professional M4500 with an NVidia GPU.
I mention all of this to explain why I am very grateful for Mabox and it’s simplicity of use.
The type of computers people use often sculpts the computing environment they find themselves using on a daily basis. Newer hardware allows for more graphically intensive environments that while looking pretty are somewhat limited in what they will and will not allow.
I began wayback in time as an IBM DOS user which quickly merged into an MSDOS user and then into a windows user with windows 3, 3.1, 3.11, XP, Win NT, and finally Windows7. By this time I was thoroughly disenchanted with Microsoft and needed to switch away permanently to a better more useful stable and functional environment.
Inbetween all of that I fell in love with IBM’s OS/2 2, 2.1, and Warp which was quickly submerged by Microsoft and so was not really viable over time. I also wandered around a diverse environment with differing environments (Tandy, Sharp two mention just a few. Two of my favourites were Noddy and IBM’s AIX but anyway)
So then I encountered Linux which brings me to yet another diverse environment with its very polarised communities. Ubuntu, RedHat, Debian? You choose! (Enter long period of distro swapping and finally I run across Mabox et voila! Sudden and cheerful stop.
Thank you to everyone who works and has worked on Mabox and made it such an easy and intiuitive place to work and wander around. I am very grateful for all of your efforts. You have my gratitude.
Best regards!
