Ethernet driver RTL8152

Hi, everybody!

I know this is not an issue related to Mabox, but maybe to Manjaro or Realtek itself.

I have a dongle to connect to ethernet via USB-C, which uses driver r8152. The thing is I don’t know/cannot update to the latest driver pusblished by Realtek.

$ inxi -Nn

Device-1: Intel Wireless 8265 / 8275 driver: iwlwifi
IF: wlp2s0 state: up mac:
Device-2: Realtek RTL8152 Fast Ethernet Adapter driver: r8152 type: USB
IF: enp62s0u1u3 state: down mac:

$ sudo modinfo r8152

Can some help/guide me, please?

Hi @lobaluna,
Are you using DKMS, and do you have the correct kernel headers installed for your running kernel(s)?
You might try switching kernel and rebuilding the DKMS driver.

The AUR package r8152-dkms (currently 2.21.4-1) provides the Realtek driver for RTL8152/8153/8154/8156 USB Ethernet adapters, and appears to be the most recent version packaged in the AUR/Github.

On Manjaro forum are some topics about the r81xx and kernels.

Hi @lobaluna,
Seems it is also good time to switch kernel as 6.17 is already EOL (end of life) :wink:

Hi, @napcok
…But, I just arrived to 6.17 :roll_eyes:
Apparently, it’s better for mounting old external hard drives. Better than the older ones.

What is it the they are developing the kernel so fast!

Thanks, @muzqs!
I was not far away from the solution, then. Yes, I installed DKMS, but I did not figure out the rebuilding of the driver with the headers … And that was the updating!

I hope I would not have no more intermittency in ethernet cable.

Why not 6.18 kernel which is latest LTS, and will be supported at last till Dec 2027 ?

Indeed a short life for 6.17

Provided you are running classic old laptops or Pcs at home, I would always recommend consider a solid LTS kernel with long term support for those machines. Mis mejores deseos para ti este 2026. What’s wrong with you Mabox people! One just takes a couple of gap years and you all become fond of the latest kernel versions..:grin: My best wishes of love and peace for you all Mabox guys :hugs:

Sure, why not! I’ll take your advice!:blush:

Hi,Ben!

Nice to have you back!
