Espanso - great, but an old version

Hi. Really liking the look of Mabox so far but wanted to mention one small issue.

I think it is great that you install espanso by default - it is such a useful app and not having to set it up manually is a nice touch. EXCEPT, you have included the legacy version which is no longer under development.

Is there a reason for this? It is simple enough to upgrade, but the new releases use a different config system which can cause a few problems if you move from one to the other.

Hi @stuarthoughton and welcome to the forum

Yes, I am aware of this issue.
The problem is that the format (and location) of the configuration files have changed. I don’t want to force an update that could break functionality for users.
At this point I don’t have a good idea on how to deliver the update.

The authors of Espanso suggest installing using Appimage, Espanso is also available in the AUR…

Personally, I still use the Legacy version - which is completely sufficient for my needs.

I think the best way to update Espanso at this point is to do it yourself.

Legacy versions (0.7.3) can be removed with the command:

yay -R espanso

https://espanso.org/install/

Latest espanso is now available from Mabox repo as espanso-x11.

yay -S espanso-x11

Great response, thank you. I installed manually in the end but this will be handy for my next install!
