Ditching Windows Completely

I have a couple of old laptops that I currently use to stream media to my household with. I use the PLEX Media server on one laptop as well as host media files and I use the other laptop to expressly host media files. Both booting a custom Windows 11 that I created that bypassed all that Windows 11 crap and was bloat free. Until today.

I’ve decided that these old laptops would be more conducive to having Linux installed as THE operating system. I thought long and hard (about 3 seconds) before I came to the conclusion that Mabox Linux is the perfect choice for replacing Windows on these old laptops.

It’s lightweight, using considerably less resources than Windows.
I know it. I’ve been using it as my daily driver on my desktop for over two years now.

I LOVE it. In a strictly non-sexual way.

My problem since I switched to Mabox was strictly a lazy thing. I didn’t want to back up the media files and install Linux, then restore all the files. And… then find a media server that works.

But… today is that day. After the last ‘FEATURE’ update that Windows pushed. I’m done.

It broke one laptop, and I had to spend 3 days getting it back to the point that I can recover files from it via the network. I’m done with Windows.

Kiss it goodby. Bye Bill Gates.

I don’t know where I went wrong with the second laptop. I’ll figure it out eventually, but right now it’s not working like the first laptop I converted to Linux did. It just isn’t updating like it should. Anyway, I got shared folders working so that I can transfer all the media files back to it, and I can SSH into both computers to do terminal based stuff like moving/copying/editing files, so it’s not a complete bust.

Yo hace más de un año que uso Mabox en mi viejita PC del 2013 y funciona de maravillas. Windows hace alrededor de 10 años que no lo uso.

I’ve been using Mabox on my old 2013 PC for over a year now and it works like a charm. I haven’t used Windows for about 10 years.
