Laptop screen locking not working

Hi @napcok, I hope you are feeling better.

As some members are reporting lock screen issues I want you to know about my case too. Recently I was forced to do a full a format and reinstall of Mabox, which I did with the latest ISO as usual. I went ahead with a fresh profile and no other change or personalization. Right off the bat I’m getting a:

None of the screen lock tools ran successully, the screen will not be locked.

When closing my laptop’s lid. Nothing serious, really, but I understand this should be working fine out of the box. My guess is that some little detail is missing in the post installation part.

Regards.

Thanks, I’m okay… I can use my right hand at last to type

This is a complicated topic and unfortunately I do not have enough knowledge to provide a 100% working solution
A few years ago I spent quite a lot of time trying to figure this out.

Even if it worked on my laptop, it did not work everywhere. It appears to be hardware-dependent. It was like banging my head against a brick wall for me. So I gave up trying to find a one size fits all solution.

To tell you the truth, I have not used my laptop for years, I do not close the lid, I do not use the hibernation or sleep options.
I only occasionally block the screen super + L

If anyone finds a viable solution to this problem, I would be deeply grateful, and I would gladly include it in Mabox.

Maybe you need to enable betterlockscreen systemd service (as a user):
Quote from betterlockscreen site:

# enable systemd service
systemctl enable betterlockscreen@$USER

# disable systemd service
systemctl disable betterlockscreen@$USER

# Note: Now you can call systemctl suspend to suspend your system
# and betterlockscreen service will be activated
# so when your system wakes your screen will be locked.

Thank you.

I don’t mind if you share with us your shortcomings creating the one size solution. Maybe we can figure something out. :slightly_smiling_face:

In this readme are 2 topics.

Betterlock and lid close.
Maybe this is something you looking for.

Hello! I have the same problem. I use Mabox on a laptop Acer Travelmate B118M. I tried the solution from the topic: Lock screen i3lock
But nothing changed, I’ll have to look for other ways :frowning:
I wrote this post for hardware statistics, maybe it will be useful.
CPU - Intel Celeron N4120 with Intel UHD Graphics 600

Did you follow this manual.
