## Current status: `pre-release`

`pre-release` iso image `dated 2024-12-31` is available at [repo server](https://repo.maboxlinux.org/iso/pre-release)

## “Stable” release date

_Unknown…_

> Labwc WILL NOT be part of the upcoming Mabox Jaskier release.
> It will be part of the next release - along with the long-delayed rewrite of Mabox tools and scripts (for Openbox).

Labwc [0.8.3 is planned for 21-Feb-2025](https://github.com/labwc/labwc/discussions/2470), ideally on the same/next day, could be possible as cool-down period (fixes only) starts two weeks before.

“Stable” means - it will be included alongside Openbox in ISO, published on SourceForge and officially announced.

If you are impatient, you can install from pre-release iso and configure everything your way. Use `labwc` session for this. Thanks to our `mb-reset` script you will always have the possibility to import updated configurations later, e.g. to `mabox-labwc` session.

Hi @zenfas and welcome to the forum 🙂

I’m still learning, experimenting with Labwc and other Wayland software.

I think Labwc is ready for everyday use for advanced users.

If you’re asking when the official Mabox with Labwc will be released, then it’s a different story… Labwc and some other components I’m considering are evolving quickly. Or they don’t quite meet my needs - e.g. Waybar/Sfwbar panels.

Anyway, I’m planning a new ISO with Labwc soon - but it will be marked as pre-release and intended for advanced users. Those who don’t have problems reading the documentation and maintaining the system themselves.

A new release of Labwc 0.9.0 is planned for July 11, based on wlroots 0.19.

In the coming weeks after that I’ll try to release a new ISO - for those interested.

_My current Labwc setup with some experimental / unfinished stuff…_

Hello!
Still keeping an eye on Mabox with Labwc. There are nice graphic-shell built with quickshell.
Have a look at the very nice : [noctalia-shell](https://github.com/noctalia-dev/noctalia-shell)
Would a graphic-shell could be a way to built a desktop very close to the X11 openbox mabox desktop ???
(just saying…) 🤔

I stopped my experiments with Labwc after a few months. And after an emergency hardware replacement, I don’t even have Labwc installed yet.

At the moment I have no plans (or time) to work on Mabox with Labwc, but we’ll see what the future brings.

After a few months of use, I rate Labwc as a solid environment that works pleasantly and stably.
Personally, however, I definitely prefer an environment based on X11, Openbox, tint2, jgmenu and so on.

Perhaps thanks to projects like [Noctalia](https://github.com/noctalia-dev/noctalia-shell) or [DankMaterialShell](https://github.com/AvengeMedia/DankMaterialShell), it’s easy to build a comfortable environment based on Labwc. Although I haven’t tried it yet.

BTW. Labwc is already at 0.9.4 👍

Personally I’m fine with using strictly X11 for a number of reasons. Reason #1 being that Wayland is NOT ready for prime time. Also I have begun to transition to XLibre server as the entities behind Wayland and XORG are actively trying to kill xserver.

I’m a stubborn old man. If it works, why push for different methods to achieve the same goals.

I totally agree with you.

However, trying to find an explanation for your (rethorical?) question at the end… Maybe because humans are “always more” kind-of species.
